Educational Opportunities
Veterinarians: We encourage local veterinarians to show their support of horse rescue work and future veterinarians by donating services and supplies as possible and participating in our educational clinics for veterinary students. Your help is what makes our educational programs possible!
"I am foreign veterinary Graduate from India. The Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) certification program requires all foreign-trained veterinarians to take Clinical Proficiency Exam (CPE), hands-on clinical skills examination, that include small, large animal, anesthesia and surgery.
Dr. Hannah Evergreen (Northwest Equine Stewardship Center, Monroe, WA) was instrumental in helping me get hands on experience for Equine section. Dr. Hannah spent two days in her busy schedule to help me acquire hands on experience through NWESC. I participated in several activities with NWESC like lameness examinations (flexion tests, nerve blocks, taking radiographs etc), handling for hoof trimming, dental floating, diagnosing and treating medical cases. I also had firsthand experience of "Cowgirl Spirit Rescue Drill Team" treating rescue horses suffering with various conditions with affection and dedication.
The gift of healing is a precious one, and NWESC brings volunteers together for good causes to help provide that gift. It was wonderful experience participating in NWESC and working with Dr. Hannah Evergreen treating rescue horses."

Vet Students: We offer a preceptor/externship program for veterinary students interested in equine medicine, alternative medicine, and/or horse rescue. This program works through our partnership with Evergreen Holistic Veterinary Care where students can utilize state of the art diagnostics such as digital x-ray and ultrasound. Because we work with rescue horses, there are many interesting hands on procedures for students to participate in. Students in the past have performed dental floats, lameness exams, colic examinations/treatments including naso-gastric intubation and rectal palpation, routine vaccinations, laceration repairs, castrations, minor surgeries, etc. Students interested in alternative medicine will also gain a valuable introduction into various modalities including acupuncture, chiropractic, homeopathy, and herbology.
Vet-Tech and Vet-Assistant Students: NWESC works with PIMA Medical Institute vet tech and vet aistant programs to help provide students with hands on experience. NWESC also offers interships for students through Evergreen Holsitic Veterinary Care.
Equine Massage Students: Need hands on experience as you complete your equine massage certification? Horses in our program are very appreciative of your work.
