Missy: Chestnut Paint Mare, '89
Currently in rehabilitation through Equine Aid and NWESC

UPDATE April 2009 - ADOPTED By Tamra Marshall

UPDATE 02/24/2009- Missy has undergone a wonderful body transformation gaining weight over the past 2-3 months since being taken in through Equine Aid.  Each and every day Missy has been willing to share a bit more of her personality.  For example she does not like her tail braided and only tolerates it being brushed, she will run through the pasture to greet you, but will almost always pin her ears when you halter her to come in, however pinning her ears is about the only mare behavior she exhibits.  Missy is also not one for being blanketed, she attempts to evade the process of putting it on but gives up rather quickly.  It is so wonderful to see this mare feel healthy and secure, and willing to express herself.  A very sincere thank you goes out to Sherri B who has donated all Missy’s needed vitamins/supplements,  Theresa M who has kindly donated feed and shelter, photographer Julie Austin www.lily-rosephotography.com who has donated her time to take professional photo’s of Missy in the hopes of getting her adopted out to her forever home, and of course Dr. Hannah who has kindly donated her veterinary services.  If you or someone you know may be interested in offering Missy a kind, loving, forever home please contact Equineaid@comcast.net

1/15/2009 - Missy (aka Ms. Quincy Barnone) is a 20 year old (March 7, 1989) Registered Paint Mare chestnut and white. She has a great eager to please, willing attitude and is great with beginner to advanced rider adult or child.  Missy stands around 15-15.1h and is available for light riding pleasure or trail., she does have some arthritis in her left front knee.  Seemingly Missy is an easy keeper once her weight is established, she is coming current on all vet care and farrier care and last month had her teeth floated to assist in her weight gain.

Background: Missy was used for many years as a gaming horse who won several awards, in between that time she was bred 6 times.  When money became an issue for the original owner Missy was placed at a ranch to become part of a “horse rental business” in exchange for free board for the owner.  When the owner got fed up with “quality of care” at the ranch the owner placed Missy on a private residents in a small muddy paddock surrounded by junkyard cars in Monroe.  Eating slightly under a bale of hay a month between her and a gelding, Missy was examined to be at a 1-1.5 on the body condition scale by Snohomish county animal control last July.  The owner initially refused to surrender Missy, after several months the owner turned her over to a family friend who then surrendered her last minute after she too could not afford her care.  Missy really does deserve her forever home, so much was asked of her, and nothing was given back.  She needs a home where someone will love her unconditionally for who she is.  If you are interested in Missy - please contact Equine Aid. equineaid@comcast.net

Update: April 2009
Whisper is doing great!  She has been moved to a foster home in Duvall and has been given a clean bill of health. Hard to believe she has come so far in the last few months, what an amazing success story.  A huge thanks to everyone that has participated in Whisper's care.  This little filly was dangerously close to dying and with everyones help she has a second chance at life!

Update January 21, 2009 - Whisper is currently in foster through S.A.F.E. and is doing much better.  She can get up on her own now and has been seen bucking in her small paddock.

December 2008
Whisper's case has shown us that the NWESC rehab center needs a sling!  We are currently fund raising to purchase two slings for the rehab center, the Large Animal Lift Sling and the Anderson Sling.  SAFE is currently renting a sling that is helping, but the LAL sling would be more effective in this case and both slings would be very valuable to have on hand for future rehabilitiation cases.

Rhythm: Black Saddlebred X gelding, '06
Currently available for adoption through S.A.F.E
More information can be found at:http://www.safehorses.org/horses/rhythm.html

Rhythm was one of the many horses who inspired the creation of NWESC.  He came in as a high needs rescue horse through S.A.F.E due to a severe injury to his right hind leg.  NWESC made the decision to take him on as an 'at cost' project and began the daily treatments of surgery, wound cleaning, bandaging, etc.  He has now fully recovered and is available for adoption. What a success!

Benny: Bay Quarterhorse X gelding, '06
Currently available for adoption through S.A.F.E
More information can be found at: www.safehorses.org/horses/benny.html

Benny was also a NWESC inspiration.  He had severe lacerations over both front legs including an extensor tendon laceration.  With high needs similar to Rhythm, Benny became another 'at cost' project for me through S.A.F.E.  Although his recovery took quite a long time and was not without complication, it was a sucess in the end.  Benny is sound and still looking for his forever home.

Jackson T. Pickles (Therapy Donkey):Grey and White Pinto donkey
Enjoying life living with Jim and Lisa Dobbin and his new barn mate Lola (also a rescued donkey)

Jackson was rescued when his owners decided they could no longer give him the kind of care he required. He was extremely lame in more than one leg and we initially were concerned he was having a severe case of laminitis. Fortunately that was not the case but he has and continues to battle abcessess. This will be a long term project as Daphne works to not only relieve him of this issue but to get his angles back to where they should be. After stabilizing him medically, he was finally gelded which is never easy on any stallion, but Jackson was older which increases the risks associated with such a surgery. It was a long recovery with many walks up and down the road as it was impossible to get Jackson to trot as we do with many of the recently gelded. He is completely recovered from his surgery but has a long road ahead for his feet.

His full name is Jackson T. Pickles, Therapy Donkey. Although Lisa named him Jackson, Valerie added on the T. Pickles because it is impossible to say his name without smiling. He has become all of our therapy donkey because once you come in contact with him - your blood pressure just drops.

He is "everyone's" donkey...a sweeter donkey would be hard to find. If you are lucky he will speak to you (we call it the wind up annnnnnnnnnnnnd the pitch - if you have ever heard a donkey - you will know what I mean! ;)

So, with much pleasure....

We introduce Jackson T. Pickles, Therapy Donkey.

The Donkey is in!

Jackson

Dahlia:Chestnut Quarterhorse mare, 20+yrs
Currently available for adoption through Hope For Horses

Dahlia was rescued from a severe neglect and starvation situation in 2006.  Dr. Hannah was called out to euthanize her by her owners and when she arrived and saw the situation, she called Hope For Horses immediately.  She was then turned over to HFH and started in the rehabilitation process.  She recovered well with hoof abcess treatments, dental extractions, food, and TLC.  Dahlia is a sweet heart and despite her age is now sound and well trained.  Unfortionately, she has been diagnosed with a seziure disorder, and so can no longer be ridden, but she is a great pasture companion and has won the hearts of many.

Norman is a well trained gelding that was surrendered to Hope for Horses through a client of Dr., Hannah's because he was not being properly cared for.  He has mild chronic laminitis and moderate arthritis but can be ridden lightly to help keep him fit and healthy.  He is well trained and a good boy.
